Jewlery Photography Part 2
Within my last article, I went on the difficulties of photographing jewelry and how difficult it is to get a consistent feel and look. One thing that made the most significant difference initially was utilizing a specific lighting tent. This tent measured about 17″ x 17″ x 17″ and was foldable, so very easy to carry from place to place. It has LED lighting stitched in and four different color backdrops. But this wasn’t the one thing I needed. Although it provided a good foundation to photograph, there was other activities I required to do. So with Amazon, I went straight back to my client’s jewelry store to set up again. As previously mentioned, the tent made a major difference and provided a basis to be effective from, but there are other elements I discovered created a huge impact also.
Here’s a run down of the things I did so to acquire consistent images whenever. Firstly, I set my camera to manual mode. This way I really could specifically ensure nothing would change shoot to shoot. My white balance was adjusted accordingly, and that i crafted a note of all my settings for future use, including just how far back my camera was from the tent etc. I actually took a picture using my iPhone to record this create for future use. Secondly, I used a macro tube extension set. This machine enabled me to acquire really close to each piece to be able to capture all the detail as is possible. The good thing about having an extension set is I could possibly put it in my zoom lens and enjoy the camera further back therefore i could access the tent easier without the camera being in the manner. Now due to extension set, I came across one other issue. My depth of field was dramatically affected and so i had the trouble of only one part of the piece being sharp, with the remainder from focus. I truly had to fiddle with all the settings to remove this as best I really could, so a high f stop number was utilized, and of course this led to the shutter being open for prolonged.
The tripod was essential. As was actually a remote shutter release control which i purchased. This generated a lot better stability and eliminated the camera shake. The very last thing I ensured was that I photographed in RAW format to ensure I needed the highest quality image to work with. I found myself set as well as the results of my images were a great deal better. They 86dexmpky the quality you can see in top professional shoots needless to say, however they were certainly adequate for a small jewelry store around town. It was one of many toughest projects I have carried out in my photographic life. I needed to alter so lots of things to receive the desired results, and my use of Lightroom afterwards played a vital role in developing the images. Because my set up became consistent, my development settings also were consistent and enabled me to use exactly the same setting to every single photograph. This can be consistency at its finest.
